SA Windsurfer Class Assoc.

A division of Windsurfing SA Inc.

WHAT IS THE WINDSURFER CLASS ASSOCIATION ?
The Windsurfer Class Association is the organisational body that runs and is actively involved in promoting the "WINDSURFER ONE DESIGN" sailboard as the base for learning the basic and advanced skills necessary to effectively and enjoyably sail any sailboard.

TYPE OF BOARD
- The ONE DESIGN is a long board with full flotation and centreboard
- It is supplied with only one sail (6 square metres). A small sail can be purchased to assist learning
- The board is very robust and very few breakages occur
- Sails are sturdy and withstand the rigours of learners, but are suitable for sailing in winds to 25 knots with accomplished sailors.
- Sailing can be for recreation only or competitive racing

Pricing of equipment
Second-hand - Good condition - Approximately $600-800
New - Approximately $1600-1700

THE ASSOCIATION WILL
- Assist in the selection and purchase of second-hand equipment (New boards are available from SA Sailboards)
- Train new sailboarders through our training program supervised by qualified instructors or through private arrangements for oldies, like the President, who may wish to try before they buy.
- The Association has a small delayed purchase program available for youths coming into our training scheme to assist with the purchase of equipment over time.
- Whilst we promote the "ONE DESIGN" we do encourage other brand long-board sailors to train and race with the Windsurfer.

HOW DOES THE ASSOCIATION INTERACT WITH OTHER SAILBOARDING CLUBS?
We do very much our own thing, but have group days with other clubs. These combined days are becoming more common and all clubs are working towards this.

EXAMPLES OF COMBINED DAYS:-
- MENINGIE (FROST BITE REGATTA)
- YORKE PENINSULA WEEKEND
- GOOLWA & WESTLAKES COMBINED DAYS
- DELFIN ISLAND RACE

HOW WOULD WE LIKE SAILORS TO PROGRESS?
1) Learn on and race the "WINDSURFER ONE DESIGN"
for 3-5 years (or 10+!)
2) Advance to the "RS:X" Olympic board.
3) Advance further to the "RACEBOARD CLASS" or "FORMULA WINDSURFING" and to provide that extra thrill try "WAVESAILING".
